Tyrone Francis- Digipak

Picture 1 is the original picture which we were going to use after being edited for our album front cover. However after audience feedback on the picture on the social networking site Facebook, we decided not to use it as alot of the feedback was negative and the audience believed that it didn't work well. As a result of this we came to the conclusion as a group that it would be better if we used computer graphics for our front cover using the Reaper (Picture 2). I created the digipak on Adobe Photoshop, using a template for the basic structure.

Picture 2
This is one of the original pictures (Picture 1) which were taken during our first photoshoot. We decided that we liked the pose with the rock hand sign, however the facial expression which Nathan was making is not very 'Punk Rock' like. However there was another image (Picture 2) which was taken where the pose which Nathan was making was not very good as the hands were at an angle where the sign was not as clearly visable as we liked, however the facial expression was perfect. In order to take the strengths of each picture, I used Adobe Photoshop to edit the pictures together, taking the body and pose

of one picture and putting the head of the other picture on top (Picture 3). With this photo I made a concert looking scene using Adobe Photoshop, creating mist, as well as placing a phot of Jason (another member of the band) in the background.

Tyrone Francis- The Gallery

Original Picture
For the band website I have edited a couple of pictures of rock band concerts to make it personal to the band and give off the feel of a real band which performs.

This is the original picture of a rock concert which i took and edited. Originally the band consisted of four members, there was a man on the left of the picture in a checkered shirt and the writing on the back of the stage said the word 'ROCK' (all circled). The lighting of the concert was a;so dominantly green which went against the bands chosen colour scheme of red which we have used consistently throughout the website

1st Edit

This is the 1st edited picture which i created. Originally I only changed the back drop to SUM41 in order to make it more personal and removed the fourth band member as our band only has 3 members. i also removed the person on the right hand side.
Final Edited Picture

This is the final edited picture which included the changes stated above but also changed the colour of the lighting to red to match the scheme of our website.
Original Picture
This is another picture of a rock band concert. This is the original.

Edited Version

This is the edited version of the picture. The only thing which I edited in this picture is the video on the screens. I replaced the original pictures with a screen shot from our video to make it seem like our production is playing on the screens for the crowd to see.

Nathan Larkin - class members feedback videos

After showing the class our first cut I decided to go and film some feedback form the class members. This way they could give detailed analysis as to what they thought of the film and what could be improved etc.

Christopher Sziranyi - Feedback of Rough Cut

After showing our Rough Cut to the class, we got some very useful feedback which we will be able to use when making adjustments to our music video. The first and most important thing we need to change is the smoothenss of the video. In fairness, part of this was due to us not having some of the clips and having to make do with the clips we had. A good example of this is when Nathan throws the hat on the ground, and instantly starts running with the hat on again. We will quickly shoot these scenes again and in general make the transitions between cuts more smooth.

Another problem we had was the lack of a third band member for the 'flashback' part of the video. Because of this we only had 2 band members which created the unintentional portrayal of a 'relationship memories' scene. Again, this is something that will be re-filmed.

There was also a scene in the music video closer to the end, where the music cuts out and there is a scene of Nathan walking into the studio and being told that he is late. After this it cuts straight to the band performing. This scene didn't work well and according to the class it disrupted the flow of the music video. Therefore, we will get rid of this section completely.

There were also some minor issues which we as a group knew about but the class didn't necessarily notice. An example of this is in the beginning of the music video when I edited a split screen effect on Nathan jumping up from the bench. After jumping up from each angle, there seems to be a shaking effect which was also unintended.

The final thing I think we need is more cut-away shots which would remove some of the awkward transitions between Nathan running, and in general improve the smoothness of the video. If we are able to overcome all of these problems I think the music video could still be very successful as I believe it has potential.

Christopher Sziranyi - No Reason - Rough Cut

After many hours of recording and editing, the rough cut of our music video has been completed. We understand that this is only a Rough Cut and much more work needs to be done to achieve the smoothness we would like. Many of the shots are still missing and we had to compensate for these with other shots which may not necessarily fit into those places. An example of this is when Nathan throws the hat on the ground, and immediately after this we see Nathan start to run again with the hat on. We also still need to get hold of our third band member to shoot some extra shots we can use as cut away shots. I feel like at this point there aren't enough fast paced shots for the genre of the music video.

Christopher Sziranyi - More T-Shirt Designs

We thought it would be best if there were multiple designs for the Web Site. Nathan has already provided us with one so I decided to finish the rest off. Here they are. The majority of the graphics you see below have been created by me. The only ones which have been taken and adapted are the skull design on the red t-shirt and the grunge background on the blue t-shirt.

Christopher Sziranyi - Sum 41 YouTube channel

We have decided to make a dedicated YouTube channel to which we will upload our first draft, and consequent improvements up until our final version.

Christopher Sziranyi - Progress Review

So far production of our music videos has been smooth up until recently. We have filmed all of the park scene in our music video and the editing on that is also essentially complete. What we still lack is the studio scene where Nathan runs into and joins the performance. Thus far we have not been able to go to the recording studio which we planned to go to as there have been many different interferences such as absences, the studio not being open or being busy, or other personal reasons. Hopefully we will be able to record this section very soon as I would not like the editing process to be rushed as that could lead to a low quality final product. Other than this slight inconvenience editing has been a challenge but all members of the group have contributed ideas that I can use while editing which had made it much easier to create a unique music video.

Nathan Larkin - Start of the digi pack!

We also have to add in a Digi pack including a CD cover and the disk image, for the CD cover we have decided to make it so that it is of the hobo and the 'suit' glaring at each other, this can be to show the rivalry between the lower and upper classes and fits in well as we are going to call the album after the track 'no reason' to let it also relate with the video.
We still have to edit in the text to go on the cover but with the Digi pack and filming we feel that within the last few days alone we have made real progress with the coursework

Christopher Sziranyi - First day Filming - 20th January

Yesterday we filmed a major part of our music video which we thought went very well. The first part of our music video is filmed in Crystal Palace Park which was a suitable location because of multiple areas which will be highlighted in this post.

This first image shows a housing estate which represents the lower class and is shown in the first scene of the music video to show that the main character starts off at the lowest point and eventually throughout the song rises through the ranks.
These next few images show the stairs at Crystal Palace Park which we thought was a good way to represent moving up in life. As you can see by the picture, the first part of the stairs are broken, seem dated and are covered by grass and gravel and looks poorly made which could represent the lower class aswell. The next two parts of the stairs are made of stone and look much better in contrast to the first which shows moving up through the ranks. In the music video Nathan is running up each step (not skipping any) which represents how you have to move up step by step and  cannot simply skip to success - this idea was contributed by Tyrone.

At the end of the session we each filmed eachother giving some feedback on how the day went, any problems we had to overcome. These videos will be shown in a later post. Here is a picture of each of us on location.
